Invite Me to Teach

The following Workshops are highly interactive, hands-on, and engaging.  They’ve been designed to deliver high-impact, transformational content with immediate application.  Each workshop can be customized to 1/2 day, full day, and multiple day trainings.  Please let me know how I can help energize your community of learners and practitioners.

Designing and Delivering Effective Workshops and Trainings  –  This workshop will present key findings from the field and research associated with brain-based learning and teaching and will dramatically change the way you teach and present.  Designed to model excellent teaching and training strategies, the workshop will not only teach but engage participants in learning effectively.  Through modeling and hands-on activities, participants will examine how learners learn best, how adults learn differently than children, the value of planning instruction and setting learning/teaching goals.  Every aspect of your teaching and training will be examined to apply how to enhance what you do to leave a dynamic impression on all your learners.

Brain-Based Learning and Teaching – This workshop examines how the brain learns and how as educators we can teach in ways that enhance that learning process.  Through demonstration and engaged, hands-on application, participants will examine how to integrate brain-based learning and teaching strategies into their courses and trainings.

Designing and Delivering Effective Online Courses – This workshop examines how to maintain effective teaching skills in online courses and leads participants in a review of such issues as feasibility, sustainability, faculty qualifications for online teaching, and market demand for alternative delivery modes.  Everyone will participate in learning and discussing strategies for success in distance learning instruction, examining best practices in online instructional delivery and exploring blended learning.

Engaging All Learners – This workshop, through hands-on demonstrations, modeling, and discussions, will actively present proven tools of engaging learners.  The facilitator will not only present key findings related to brain-based learning and active learning, but will relate the tools and strategies to successful application in interpreter education.  Participants will learn how to lead their own “students” into new learning states and will learn what to do to help their students to be more engaged and successful in the learning process.

Assessment & Standards:  Effectively Assessing Students and Programs in Interpreter Education –  This workshop will examine how assessment of student achievement can be done effectively and efficiently, demonstrate how interpreter education preparation programs can approach such assessment in a systematic manner and the programs can handle assessment data reporting and evaluation process.  An assessment process and system was heralded as an exemplary approach to documenting candidate accomplishments with state and national standards.

Foundations of Legal Interpreting –  This workshop will explore the process of interpreting in legal settings.  Particular focus will be on interpreting in courts, although other legal settings will also be explored.  Participants will examine the US Legal system including both civil and criminal court processes as well as the right to an interpreter, the roles and responsibilities of an interpreter and the role of ethics in our work.  The goal of this course is to provide you with the principles and protocol associated with interpreting in legal settings.
