Currently, I’m working on some exciting projects in the areas of research, instructional design, and writing. Here is a glimpse of that work.
Legal Interpreting – I’m fascinated with the work and process of interpreting in legal settings. I’ve recently lead a research project that examined legal interpreting in North America. The study resulted in two peer-reviewed publications and several presentations. I’m developing additional studies in this area.
Deaf Senior Citizens – With a colleague, we’ve examined the lives of Deaf Senior Citizens and the idea of social isolation and connectedness. We also explored their experiences growing up and what advice they’d offer to families today with Deaf children.
Foundations of Interpreting – I’m writing a book! Through Gallaudet University Press, I’m working with a colleague in developing a foundational textbook for the field of Interpreter Education. It will bring together several authors to explore the foundational knowledge and skills in preparing interpreters.
Blended Learning – I’ve recently launched a research project to examined the perceptions of interpreting students of blended learning. A group of students enrolled in an inaugural cohort of a graduate interpreter pedagogy degree program participated in the study and provided responses to survey questions about their experiences and also participated in individual interviews about their experiences.
